A Better Approach to Nursing

A registered nurse is the caregiver patients see the most during a hospital stay, and the quality and competence of nursing staff directly affects the quality of care and the overall patient experience. At Oklahoma Heart Hospital, our team of registered nurses are professional caregivers who are equipped to provide the highest-quality care to our patients. Our approach to nursing is unique, and it allows us to attract and retain highly skilled nurses who are empowered to meet their patient’s needs.

Culture

Our caregivers work in an environment that fosters communication and teamwork, and we emphasize training and empower our nurses to competently care for patients. That results in high-quality, individualized care for each patient. Nurses benefit from working in a place that builds them up and puts their skill and knowledge to use. They love working at OHH and it shows in how they care for patients every day.

Shaping patient care

At OHH, our entire staff — including doctors, nurses, and members of our allied health and support staff teams — collaborates to continuously improve patient care. This collaboration enables nurses to care for patients in a responsive, timely manner rather than wait for approval or assistance for routine patient needs. Nurses also play a key role in creating new policies and procedures to shape the future of patient care.

Benefits and continuing education

We take care of our team members. Our competitive benefits package includes signing bonuses, tuition reimbursement, and much more. These benefits help us attract and retain a talented, well-educated nursing staff. Continuing education supports each individual’s career goals and ensures our team is current on the latest information and techniques in patient care. Our commitment to a positive work environment for nurses is seen in everything, even down to our flexible scheduling practices.

Nurse-to-patient ratio

We keep our nurse-to-patient ratio low to ensure our nurses can provide focused, quality nursing care. For general care areas, each nurse has a maximum of four patients. In our critical care unit, each nurse will have two patients at most and only one patient in some cases. As a patient, this means your nurse can better focus on your needs. They spend time getting to know you and your family or other members of your support team and provide the highest level of care possible.
